The Osun State Government has addressed concerns surrounding the ongoing recruitment training for the Amotekun security service by approving the absorption of more applicants into the program.
The decision follows intervention by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Kazeem Akinleye, acting on the directive of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Hon. Akinleye engaged with the leadership of Amotekun throughout yesterday to review the recruitment process and discuss the grievances of excluded applicants.
The Chairman of the Amotekun security service, Hon. Wale Abbas (AIG Rtd.), presented a detailed situation report, leading to the approval of additional intakes.
Clarifying misconceptions surrounding the exercise, Abbas stated, “There were no fatalities during the minor protest yesterday, and there are no attempts to introduce political bias into the enlistment process.”
To reinforce the government’s commitment to fairness, Hon. Akinleye, alongside the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Bashiru Salami, and Hon. Wale Abbas, visited the training camp today. Addressing the protesting applicants outside the center, he officially announced their absorption into the training.
While addressing the trainees, Akinleye emphasized the core mission of Amotekun, urging them to remain committed to serving society.
“This is an opportunity to contribute selflessly to the security of Osun State. Take your training seriously and uphold the values of the service,” he said.
He also conveyed Governor Adeleke’s goodwill message, assuring the recruits of the administration’s support.
He directed Amotekun management to ensure the provision of adequate welfare and a conducive training environment for all personnel.
Reaffirming the state’s commitment to security, Akinleye stated, “The government remains dedicated to strengthening Amotekun as a complementary force to national security agencies.”
