The Osun State House of Assembly has denied reports alleging a plan to introduce rotational chairmanship among traditional rulers in the state, describing the claim as false, misleading and entirely fabricated.
The denial followed a publication circulating on a Facebook page operating under the name “Ashiwaju Omo Yoruba,” which alleged that the Speaker of the House was involved in moves to rotate the chairmanship of the traditional council.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Olamide Tiamiyu, the Assembly dismissed the report as deliberate misinformation aimed at misleading the public and stirring unnecessary tension around sensitive traditional and cultural matters.
According to the statement, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Olumide Egbedun, neither received, authorised nor acknowledged any letter relating to the rotation of chairmanship among traditional rulers in the state.
The Assembly further clarified that no such issue has ever been presented, discussed or contemplated by the House or its Committee on Chieftaincy Matters, stressing that the claim does not reflect the legislative activities or official records of the Assembly.
“This claim is entirely false and a complete fabrication. Neither the Speaker nor the Osun State House of Assembly received or authorised any correspondence on the rotation of chairmanship among traditional rulers. Such a matter has never come before the House in any form,” the statement quoted the Speaker as saying.
Egbedun reaffirmed that the Assembly conducts its affairs strictly in line with constitutional provisions and established legislative procedures, adding that any attempt to suggest otherwise was misleading.
“This is a calculated act of mischief designed to misinform the public, provoke unnecessary tension and undermine the credibility of the Osun State House of Assembly,” the statement added.
The Assembly condemned what it described as irresponsible conduct by the operators of the Facebook page, accusing them of spreading unfounded and malicious falsehoods capable of eroding public trust and exploiting sensitive traditional issues for ulterior motives.
Members of the public, particularly residents of Osun State, were advised to disregard the publication in its entirety and rely only on statements issued through the Assembly’s official and verified communication channels.
The Speaker assured citizens of his continued commitment to truth, transparency and accountability, pledging to protect the integrity of the Osun State House of Assembly against misinformation, fake news and malicious falsehoods.
