A prominent Nigerian industrialist, Chief Lawal Yusuf Obelawo, has died at the age of 95.
His death was announced on Tuesday by his son, Prince Dare Obelawo, who shared an emotional tribute on his social media platform, describing the late patriarch as his mentor, father, role model and confidant.
In the message announcing the loss, Prince Obelawo wrote, “Erinwo Ajanaku sun bi o ke, my mentor, my father, my role model, my confidant and an icon has gone to be with his creator. May your gentle soul rest in peace my lovely father. I will truly miss you.”
Chief Obelawo, a native of Ejigbo in Osun State, was widely respected in Nigeria’s business community for his contributions to the development of the manufacturing sector.
He founded Lawal Obelawo Plastic Pipe Industry Nigeria Limited, a manufacturing company known for producing HDPE and PVC pressure pipes used in water distribution and infrastructure projects across the country.
Born on May 20, 1930, the late industrialist built a reputation as a visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist whose efforts supported the growth of local industry and private enterprise.
He was also recognised within the chamber movement and maintained a strong presence in the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture network.
Tributes have continued to pour in from associates, business leaders and members of the organised private sector who described him as a man of integrity, enterprise and enduring influence in Nigeria’s industrial landscape.
The family is expected to announce funeral arrangements in the coming days.
