Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued a strong warning to traditional rulers in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun, declaring that any failure to maintain peace in their domains could lead to their removal from office. This comes amid reports of renewed threats of violence in the affected communities.

According to a statement signed by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, reiterated the administration’s resolve to hold community leaders accountable while ensuring that peace and stability are sustained in the state.

The governor’s caution follows intelligence suggesting that some groups are mobilizing for another round of attacks, despite previous peace agreements and the relaxation of curfew measures.

“In the midst of the Sallah celebrations, I got reports of some people planning another round of conflict around Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun towns. Security agencies have tightened surveillance to ensure no attacks take place,” Adeleke stated.

He emphasized that security operatives are intensifying their interrogation of key figures involved in past disturbances. The governor also reminded town leaders that their commitment to peace is a serious undertaking.

“The peace undertakings they are signing are not a joke. They will be held accountable. There will be accountability before the law,” he added.

The Osun State Government recently relaxed a 24-hour curfew imposed on the troubled areas, citing humanitarian considerations.

However, Adeleke made it clear that any attempt to exploit the adjustment for renewed violence would result in the immediate reinstatement of the full curfew.

“The curfew was relaxed on humanitarian grounds. As a compassionate government, we know many innocent people are suffering because of the evil agenda of a few elements. Any attempt to take advantage of this to foment trouble will be met with a complete re-imposition of the 24-hour curfew,” he warned.

Adeleke further delivered a stern message to the royal fathers of the affected communities, asserting that any traditional ruler who fails to prevent a resurgence of violence will face serious consequences.

“I will remove from office any traditional ruler where violence recurs. This card is on the table. Royal fathers must call their subjects to order. I will wield the big stick. Enough is enough,” the governor declared
