Oyo State Police Command has announced a statewide operation targeting vehicles without valid registration numbers, as well as motorcycles or cars bearing fake, covered, defaced, or unauthorised number plates.
The move, set to commence Monday, January 12, 2026, is aimed at curbing criminal activities and strengthening public safety.
The enforcement directive, approved by Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna, covers vehicles with dealer’s or National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) plates used unlawfully, as well as motorcycles ridden by individuals concealing their faces with hoods or masks.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, in a statement on Friday, said the operation follows intelligence indicating that criminals exploit unmarked and fake-plated vehicles, along with disguised motorcyclists, to commit crimes.
“Henceforth, any person found violating these directives shall be arrested, while the vehicle or motorcycle involved shall be impounded, and suspects prosecuted accordingly upon conclusion of investigations,” Ayanlade stated.
The statement added that the CP had earlier engaged with commercial motorcyclists across the state, warning that motorcycles used to facilitate crime would attract full legal consequences.
He also shared his personal contact with the union leadership to encourage timely reporting of credible intelligence.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to proactive, intelligence-led policing in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, security post, or through emergency lines.
