There was mild tension at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Sunday morning as an Air Peace aircraft operating Flight P47190 from Lagos veered off the runway upon landing. Fortunately, all passengers on board disembarked safely, and no injuries were reported.
The airline confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe.
“Air Peace confirms that its Flight P47190, operating from Lagos to Port Harcourt this morning, had a runway excursion after landing safely at the Port Harcourt International Airport,” the statement read.
The aircraft reportedly veered slightly off the runway but sustained no damage, according to the airline’s confirmation.
“All the passengers disembarked safely and calmly. No injuries were reported,” the airline stated.
Air Peace also used the opportunity to reassure the public of its strict commitment to safety standards.
“We reassure the flying public of our unflinching commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety in all our operations,” the statement concluded.
Sunday’s incident is not the first involving the airline in recent months. On May 11, an Air Peace plane was grounded at the Asaba International Airport after colliding with a large antelope while taxiing, leading to flight delays.
Commenting on the Asaba incident at the time, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Michael Achimugu, said on his official X account that while such occurrences are unpredictable, they do not exempt airlines from their duty of care to passengers.
