The Enugu State Police Command has arrested six suspected cult members during an operation targeting forced initiation activities in the state.
The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Anti Cultism Tactical Squad following credible intelligence, according to the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe.
Ndukwe said the arrest followed an investigation into reports that some youths were being forcefully initiated into a secret cult group within Enugu metropolis.
He stated that the suspects were apprehended while attempting to initiate victims into the Supreme Vikings Confraternity at a forest location in Ugwu Peak, Iva Valley, Enugu North Local Government Area.
“Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command attached to the Anti Cultism Tactical Squad, on 5th December 2025, acted on credible information, uncovered, and arrested six male suspects for forcefully initiating victims into the Supreme Vikings Confraternity on 25th November 2025, at a forest in Ugwu Peak, Iva Valley, Enugu North Local Government Area,” Ndukwe said.
He disclosed that items recovered from the suspects included one locally made double barrelled pistol, four cutlasses, and two empty bottles of Squadron rum allegedly used during the initiation process.
“One locally made double barrelled pistol and four cutlasses used for their criminal activities, and two empty bottles of Squadron rum used for the initiation, were recovered from the suspects,” the police spokesperson added.
The arrested suspects were identified as Edeh Francis Chigbo, also known as Saint, aged 22, Ogbu Fabulous, also known as Nwakanwa, aged 23, Odom Chiemerie, also known as Coded, aged 28, Nweke Anayo, also known as Chaplet, aged 22, Obumneme Obiechina, also known as Biggy, aged 30, and Chigozie Ugbene, also known as God Bless, aged 20.
Ndukwe said the suspects confessed to being members of the cult group and admitted their involvement in the alleged criminal acts.
“They all confessed to membership of the secret cult group and their involvement in the criminal acts, and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations,” he stated.
Cult related activities remain a major security concern in parts of the South East, where cases of forced initiation, violence, and rivalry among groups have continued to pose threats to public safety.
The Enugu State Police Command said it remains committed to sustaining the fight against cultism and urged residents to continue providing timely and useful information to security agencies.
