The Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspected burglars in separate operations across the state and rescued 10 abducted victims during a joint security operation in different locations.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, saying the arrests and rescue followed intelligence driven investigations and coordinated security efforts.

According to Abiodun, operatives of the B Division in Suleja arrested a suspect, Ahmed Jibril, following complaints from residents of the Rafin Senyi and Kwata areas over repeated cases of house breaking and theft.

He said about 13 residents reported that between November 2025 and January 24, 2026, the suspect allegedly broke into their homes and stole valuables.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, police operatives, through the aid of technical intelligence, arrested the suspect,” Abiodun said.

He added that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crimes and led officers to his father’s uncompleted house in Suleja, where several stolen items were recovered.

Items recovered included bed mattresses and frames, gas cylinders, a wardrobe, a standing fan, rugs, cooking utensils, clothes, footwear, household appliances, tools, and other personal belongings. The items were later identified by the victims.

Abiodun further stated that the suspect confessed to selling some of the stolen items to receivers in Madalla, noting that investigations were ongoing to arrest those involved and recover additional items. He said the suspect would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigations.

In a related development, operatives attached to the A Division in Bida arrested another suspect, Sani Ndagi, in connection with a house breaking and theft incident involving a giant power generator, two medium sized generators, and two air conditioner compressors.

“Following investigations, one Sani Ndagi of the Sabon Gida area of Bida was arrested in connection with the crime. He confessed to the offence, and all the stolen items were recovered,” the police spokesperson said.

The police also arrested one Aliyu Umar, 45, of the Tsawatamukum area of Bida, for allegedly receiving one of the stolen compressors. Both suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue.

Meanwhile, Abiodun said a joint security team rescued 10 abducted victims during an operation in Mariga Local Government Area of the state.

He explained that the rescue took place on February 1, 2026, when security operatives intercepted and engaged suspected kidnappers in a gun duel at Mai Laka village along the Bangi to Kotonkoro road.

“During the gun battle, the abductors abandoned the kidnapped victims and fled the scene. About 10 victims from Yauri, Dusai, Dogon Fadama, and Yabawa villages were rescued,” he said.

The police added that some motorcycles believed to belong to the fleeing suspects were recovered, while clearance operations and monitoring of the area had been intensified.

The Niger State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime across the state and urged residents to continue providing timely and useful information to security agencies to support ongoing security operations.
