Two police officers have been shot dead during an exchange of gunfire between security operatives and suspected kidnappers in Plateau State.

The confrontation, which occurred along Little Rayfield Road in Jos, also led to the arrest of four suspects linked to the foiled kidnapping attempt.

The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alabo Alfred, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday.

“The Plateau State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the arrest of four (4) suspected kidnappers in the recent foiled kidnapping incident that took place along Little Rayfield Road, Jos,” Alfred stated.

He identified the fallen officers as Fatoyo Femi and Inspector Dafur Dashit, who were members of a special team deployed from the Force Investigation Department in Abuja to assist in combating kidnapping in the state.

“However, two (2) of our officers, namely Fatoyo Femi and Inspr Dafur Dashit, attached to the Force Investigation Department, Abuja (IRT), who were on special duty in Jos, lost their lives during the exchange of gunfire with the suspected kidnappers,” he added.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officers and extended condolences to their families.

He reassured residents that the command remains committed to tackling criminal activities.

“We urge residents to remain calm as we continue our investigations into this incident. The situation is under control, and we are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of citizens,” CP Adesina stated.

The police have also provided emergency contact numbers for Plateau residents to report suspicious activities or seek assistance. Citizens are advised to call 07059473022, 08038907662, 08075391844, or 09053872296 in case of any emergency.
