The Ondo State Police Command has rescued two workers abducted by gunmen in Akure North Local Government Area and has also commenced an investigation into an unregistered medical facility following the death of a pregnant woman during childbirth.

The two workers were rescued after armed men attacked a work site in the Eleyewo area of Akure North, abducting two of the four persons at the location. The other two workers reportedly escaped into the bush during the attack.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, said a distress call was promptly received at the police control room, leading to a swift response by operatives in the area.

According to him, “Four men working at a site in Eleyewo were ambushed by two gunmen who abducted two of them, while the remaining two escaped into the bush. Upon receiving the distress call, our operatives swung into action.”

Jimoh disclosed that the abducted workers were successfully rescued, while the motorcycle used by the suspects was recovered during the operation.

He added that efforts are ongoing to locate the two workers who fled the scene and to arrest the suspects behind the abduction.

The victims were identified as Adesola Emiloye, 45, Jimoh Akinlolu, 35, Ebenezer Oloro, 43, and another individual whose identity is yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Command has also begun an investigation into an illegal medical facility in Odigbo Local Government Area following the death of a 28-year-old pregnant woman during childbirth.

Jimoh said the case was reported to the police on January 18, 2026, by a resident of the Sabo area of Odigbo.

He explained that a couple, Kehinde Olawuyi, 36, and his wife, Eniola Olawuyi, allegedly operated an unregistered clinic at Orita, Odigbo.

“The deceased, identified simply as Iyanu, was admitted to the facility on January 4, 2026, for delivery. The procedure was allegedly mishandled, resulting in excessive bleeding and loss of consciousness,” the police spokesperson said.

He added that the woman was later rushed to another hospital for emergency treatment but was confirmed dead.

Jimoh stated that preliminary findings revealed that the suspects were not registered medical practitioners, noting that investigations were ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, warned residents against patronising illegal medical facilities and urged the public to seek medical care only from licensed health institutions.

Lawal reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state, stressing that Ondo State would not be allowed to serve as a safe haven for criminals.

He also commended the collaboration between the police and the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, saying the partnership has continued to strengthen crime prevention and public safety.

The Police Command further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to aid crime prevention and detection.
