The Borno State Police Command has arrested a 22 year old woman and seized 89 sachets of tramadol during an intelligence led operation at the Baga Road Motor Park in Maiduguri.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, and shared via the official X handle of the command.
According to the statement, operatives attached to the State Intelligence Department intercepted the suspect on January 20, 2026, at about 7.30pm, following what the police described as credible intelligence.
“The suspect was intercepted and apprehended at Baga Road Motor Park, Maiduguri, while attempting to waybill a black sack containing grounded maize, locally known as garri masara,” the statement said.
Police said a search of the sack revealed that 89 sachets of tramadol capsules were concealed inside the grounded maize in an attempt to evade detection.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, disclosed that preliminary investigation showed the suspect was allegedly acting on the instruction of her uncle and was transporting the illicit drugs to Damasak Local Government Area of the state.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was given the sack by her uncle to transport the illicit consignment to Damasak Local Government Area and that it was the second time she was carrying out such an assignment,” Abdulmajid stated.
He added that the suspect and the recovered exhibits were currently in police custody and undergoing further investigation, while efforts were ongoing to arrest other persons connected to the crime.
Abdulmajid reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling drug trafficking, substance abuse, and other criminal activities across Borno State. He also urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to enhance security in the state.
