According to the statement, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, will deliver the keynote address at the conference with a presentation titled, “Building a Future-Ready STEM Ecosystem in Ogun State.”

The conference will also feature the official launch of the Rockcity Centre for Media and Leadership Development, an initiative designed to promote youth leadership, digital literacy, media education and STEM advocacy across Ogun State and the Southwest region.

The programme will be chaired by the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola, whose role in promoting education and community development has been widely acknowledged.

Malaolu explained that the initiative is part of Rockcity FM’s effort to support youth development and strengthen opportunities for young people to explore careers in science and technology.

“The launch of the Rockcity Centre for Media and Leadership Development represents a strategic expansion of Rockcity FM’s commitment to development communication, youth capacity building and ethical media practice,” the statement said.

He added that the centre will focus on media and digital literacy, STEM advocacy, leadership training for young people, as well as solutions journalism and civic education.

About 200 participants are expected at the programme, including 100 students and 40 staff drawn from 20 public and private secondary schools. The event will also host about 50 resource persons and dignitaries from the education and development sectors.

Activities scheduled for the conference include keynote sessions, expert lectures, mentorship engagements and interactive dialogue aimed at encouraging students, particularly girls, to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The Guest Speaker for the event is Titilola Aderonke Samuel, Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Lagos.

Other dignitaries expected at the event include former Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, former Commissioner for Environment, Tony Ojeshina, and the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu.

Also expected are the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Wasiu Isiaka, and the Director of the International Press Centre, Lanre Arogundade.

The organisers described the conference as a timely intervention aimed at addressing the widening gap in access to STEM education, especially among girls, while strengthening collaboration among policymakers, educators, traditional institutions and development partners to build a sustainable STEM ecosystem in Ogun State.
