The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed circulating rumors suggesting the return of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) under a reformed structure.
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this clarification in a statement released on Monday, emphasizing that SARS remains dissolved and has not been reinstated.
“SARS was disbanded on October 11, 2020, and remains so. Any claim about its return or reformation should be disregarded,” Adejobi stated.
The police warned the public to be cautious of misinformation and urged Nigerians to verify the authenticity of any claims before spreading them. “We advise citizens to confirm any security-related information from credible sources before accepting it as true. Misinformation can create unnecessary panic and distrust,” the statement read.
