Mojisola Meranda has officially assumed office as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, marking a new chapter in the Assembly’s leadership amidst chants of support from fellow lawmakers.

Mojisola Meranda was warmly welcomed to her new office by lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly, except for the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who was absent during the ceremony.

Following her formal assumption of office, Meranda and the lawmakers gathered for a group photograph, symbolizing their unity and collective endorsement of her leadership.

In a celebratory moment, the legislators showered her with accolades, encouraging her to continue her impactful work. “Madam, continue your work; your work is appealing to us. You are the Speaker, you are the Speaker, you are the Speaker,” they chanted enthusiastically. They added in unison, “Speak for Lagos. Continue with your work.”

After the praises, Meranda proceeded to her official office, accompanied by the lawmakers. The transition was marked by intense prayers, signifying hope and guidance for her tenure as Speaker.

This development follows claims by former Speaker Obasa, who described his removal as unconstitutional and lacking due process.

Security Measures
To ensure a peaceful environment within the Lagos State House of Assembly, security measures have been heightened. Staff members and legislative aides are now required to present valid identity cards to access the premises, as stated in a notice signed by Omotayo Adekemi on behalf of the Acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Taiwo Ottun.

The notice read: “Following management directives, all staff members and legislative aides must present valid identity cards to access the House premises. Entry will be denied anyone without a valid ID card. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.”

In addition, the Lagos State Police Command has reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining order across the state. The Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olawale, stated: “While the Police have no business inside the Assembly, it is our duty to ensure calmness outside the premises and across the state.”
