In a laudable gesture aimed at promoting safety, sustainability, and improved learning conditions, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Senator Yayi, has donated 50 solar-powered streetlights and five mini buses to the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
The donation, described as a major contribution to educational and environmental development, was officially delivered and installed across the university’s campus on June 18, 2025.
The solar-powered lights were strategically placed in key areas of the institution to improve night-time visibility and bolster security within the campus environment.
According to the Director of the Directorate of Works and Services, Engr. Funso Ipadeola, the 50 solar-powered streetlights were distributed as follows:
– 10 units from the College of Veterinary Medicine (COLVET) Junction to Princess Bisi Soboyejo Hostel
– 16 units from the NEEDS Assessment Hostel to the Students’ Union Building (SUB) Junction
– 16 units along the CEADESE/Postgraduate Hostel Road
– 2 units at the ICT Resource Centre frontage
– 6 units at the Ceremonial Gate (external area)
He explained that, “These installations will not only brighten critical spots on campus at night but also contribute to ongoing efforts at promoting renewable energy use.”
In addition to the lighting, Senator Yayi also provided five mini buses to enhance mobility within the university, further demonstrating his commitment to the welfare of students and staff.
The Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Professor Babatunde Kehinde, expressed deep appreciation to Senator Yayi on behalf of the University Management.
He said, “This generous intervention has come at a most needed time. It shows the Senator’s strong belief in quality education, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment. These facilities will go a long way in improving campus life.”
He further noted that the support aligns with the institution’s pursuit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 9, which advocates for industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
Professor Kehinde reaffirmed the University’s dedication to fostering partnerships that will continue to drive excellence, research, and innovation.
