A tragic road mishap in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, has left seven people confirmed dead and at least 16 others injured.

The fatal accidents occurred at two separate locations Egbeda and Idi-Ori along the Oyo Expressway, in Akinyele Local Government Area.

The first incident took place in the Egbeda area, where three siblings tragically lost their lives.

Eyewitnesses report that the siblings were standing by the roadside when a truck, reportedly out of control, ran over them.

A witness at the scene, who spoke anonymously, said, “The truck lost control and crushed the victims while they were innocently standing by the road.”

In the second accident, which occurred along the Idi-Ori axis of the Oyo Expressway, four people were confirmed dead, and two others sustained various degrees of injuries.

The victims were involved in a collision between two commercial vehicles—a yellow Volvo and a DAF truck. Four of the six individuals involved died instantly at the scene.

The two survivors were rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for treatment.

Eyewitness Adekunle Adeleke described the incident, saying, “It was a head-on collision between a yellow Volvo and a DAF truck.”

The accident was caused by obstruction on the road. Four people died immediately, while the other two were critically injured and transported to the hospital.”

Taofeek, another eyewitness, confirmed that emergency responders were quick to arrive at the scene.

“The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigeria Police swiftly responded to the crash, ensuring that the victims were taken care of, and traffic flow was managed,” he added.

The FRSC Sector Commander for Oyo State, Rosemary Alo, confirmed the incident and provided further details.

“The police were already nearby and immediately took over the rescue operation. The bodies of the deceased were transported to UCH, and the vehicles causing obstruction were cleared off the road. Our officers at RS11.39 Moniya are on-site managing traffic at the scene,” Alo stated.

She also used the opportunity to urge all road users to exercise caution, especially during adverse conditions. “Drivers must remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to prevent accidents,” she said.
