A Nigerian youth organization has urged Nigerians to reject social media attacks aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).
In a press statement released on Thursday and signed by John Amechi,
President, Nigerian Youth for Good Governance, the group condemned recent online posts targeting Dabiri-Erewa’s character.
The statement emphasized that such attacks are unjust and unfounded given her long-standing service to the nation.
“Hon. Abike Dabiri has always stood as a mother to all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion, or background. She has consistently defended the rights and welfare of Nigerians abroad and worked tirelessly to ensure our people are treated with dignity across the world,” said John Amechi, President of the Nigerian Youth for Good Governance.
Amechi added that attempts to smear Dabiri-Erewa’s image are deliberate acts of character assassination. “We strongly condemn these attempts at defamation and call on all Nigerians to disregard such negative publications. Those hiding under the guise of ethnicity to attack her are simply trying to create unnecessary tribal tension,” he said.
The youth group also urged relevant security agencies to investigate the perpetrators of the falsehoods and take appropriate action. “Spreading false information to incite division or discredit hardworking public servants will not be tolerated,” Amechi added.
The statement concluded with a call for unity and support for leaders who dedicate themselves to national progress.
