A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on the Federal Government to release the monthly allocations to the reinstated local government chairmen, stating that the delay is hindering grassroots development.

Speaking in a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye described the recently conducted local government election in Osun as a “waste of taxpayers’ money,” emphasizing that it was unnecessary following the Court of Appeal ruling on February 10, which reinstated the sacked APC council chairmen.

“The conduct of that election was nothing but an exercise in futility. The Court of Appeal, Akure, had already reinstated the chairmen, making the entire process illegal and a drain on public funds,” he stated.

Oyintiloye, a former representative of Obokun State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, warned that the state government would eventually be held accountable for the financial resources spent on the election. He stressed that the reinstated council chairmen, who had lost nearly two years of their tenure, needed immediate access to funds to implement much-needed developmental projects in their respective local governments.

“With less than nine months left before the end of their tenure, it is imperative that the Federal Government releases their allocations so they can make a meaningful impact at the grassroots. People at the local level have suffered neglect since 2022 when the chairmen were unlawfully sacked,” Oyintiloye said.

The APC chieftain also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for maintaining professionalism in addressing security challenges and preventing abuse of power in the state.

“I appreciate the Inspector-General of Police for ensuring peace in Osun and for his professional handling of security matters. His approach has helped stabilize the situation, and I urge continued vigilance in protecting democratic institutions,” he added.
