Gunmen have attacked Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a teacher and abducting an unspecified number of students during the National Examinations Council Senior School Certificate Examination.
The attack occurred on Monday morning, according to TVC News, triggering panic among students and teachers, who fled the school as the assailants stormed the premises.
The incident also left another teacher injured during the attack.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said security agencies had launched a rescue operation to secure the release of the abducted students and determine the whereabouts of others still unaccounted for.
Daso said, “Security agencies have launched efforts to rescue the abducted students and account for those still missing.”
He added that investigations into the attack were ongoing, noting that security had been reinforced in the affected area to prevent further incidents.
