President Bola Tinubu is currently hosting Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, as both leaders engage in high-level talks to bolster diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Ghana.
Mahama arrived at the State House at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, marking his first official visit to Nigeria since his inauguration on January 7, 2025.
The discussions between both presidents are expected to focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, regional security, and economic development.
Sources close to the meeting indicate that Mahama and Tinubu are also reviewing developments within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to reinforce regional stability and democratic governance.
During their meeting, Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fostering closer relations with Ghana.
“Nigeria and Ghana share deep historical and economic ties. This meeting is another step towards strengthening our partnership for the benefit of our people,” Tinubu stated.
Mahama, in his remarks, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reiterated Ghana’s commitment to working closely with Nigeria.
“Ghana and Nigeria must continue to lead efforts in ensuring peace, economic growth, and security in West Africa. Our collaboration remains crucial in addressing shared challenges,” he said.
This visit follows Mahama’s earlier meeting with Tinubu in December 2024, shortly after winning Ghana’s presidential election.
At the time, Tinubu congratulated Mahama on his victory, describing him as a leader capable of advancing regional peace and cooperation.
