President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday met behind closed doors with six governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress at the State House in Abuja, with national security and the push for state police forming the core of their discussion.

The governors at the meeting were Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State, Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, Usman Ododo of Kogi State and Monday Okpebholo of Edo State.

The talks focused on strengthening the country’s security architecture and the need for more effective policing structures, especially as the call for state police continues to gain traction. The discussion also covered broader governance concerns tied to the current security environment.

Other issues raised during the meeting included restructuring of the polity, food security, agric mechanisation and the nationwide performance of the Renewed Hope Initiative.

The meeting, which began around 4pm, lasted about an hour and came at a time of ongoing political consultations within the governing party ahead of key engagements.
