Tottenham’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season came to a halt on Saturday after Bournemouth sealed a narrow 1-0 victory in north London.
The Cherries stunned the home crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Evanilson’s fifth-minute strike, deflected off Cristian Romero, looped beyond goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
Despite Vicario producing several crucial saves to keep Spurs in the contest, Thomas Frank’s side failed to spark in attack and managed just one shot on target throughout the match.
Frank, who succeeded Ange Postecoglou in the summer, had overseen back-to-back clean sheets and two wins, including a memorable 2-0 triumph at Manchester City. But against Bournemouth, Spurs never found their rhythm.
“We just never got going in the first period,” the club admitted in its post-match reaction, as the visitors held firm to claim their second victory of the campaign.
Elsewhere, Everton edged Wolves 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at Molineux, with on-loan Jack Grealish pulling the strings and assisting twice.
Newly-promoted Sunderland also staged a dramatic late turnaround at the Stadium of Light, coming from behind with two goals in the final minutes to beat Brentford 2-1.
