The Ogun State House of Assembly (OGHA) has called on the State Government to enhance the operational capacity of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) by recruiting more personnel and procuring advanced technological equipment to improve traffic management and road safety across the state.

The resolution, passed after an extensive debate during plenary at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, emphasized the urgent need to strengthen TRACE’s enforcement capacity due to rising population, increased commercial activities, and the influx of heavy-duty trucks and articulated vehicles into industrial corridors.

Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation, Hon. Wasiu Ayodele, who sponsored the motion, stated that at least 1,000 additional personnel were needed to expand TRACE’s presence on major roads.

He noted that inadequate manpower had hindered effective traffic enforcement, leading to avoidable road crashes and congestion.

“With Ogun State’s growing economy and the increasing movement of people and goods, it is critical to equip TRACE with adequate resources to ensure smooth traffic flow and safer roads,” Ayodele emphasized.

Other lawmakers, including Hon. Yusuf Amosun and Hon. Wahab Haruna, also highlighted the severe traffic gridlock in industrial areas, particularly those with high volumes of heavy-duty vehicles.

They stressed the need for new patrol trucks, towing vehicles, and modern traffic monitoring tools to boost the efficiency of TRACE officers.

Hon. Haruna urged the government to explore private sector partnerships for funding, training, and procurement of advanced equipment.

He stated, “Enhancing TRACE’s capacity will not only reduce accidents but also improve economic productivity by ensuring smooth transportation of goods and services.”

In his response, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, commended the motion and assured that the House would support initiatives aimed at strengthening TRACE’s operations.

He added, “Road safety is paramount. Strengthening TRACE with manpower and technology will save lives and improve traffic management across the state.”
