The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two suspected drug traffickers and seized a total of 763.3 kilogrammes of skunk cannabis in separate operations across the state.
State Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the arrests and seizures were part of the agency’s pre-Yuletide strategies to curb drug trafficking and ensure public safety during the festive season.
Ofoyeju explained that the first operation took place on December 2, 2025, when officers intercepted two Honda Accord vehicles at Agho Forest in Akoko Edo Local Government Area.
One vehicle, registered ABC-678KK, contained 341 compressed packages weighing 217.5 kilogrammes, while the other, GGE-772FB, held 361 packages weighing 230 kilogrammes.
The driver of the first vehicle, 56-year-old Dada Adedara Babawibi, was apprehended, while the driver of the second remains at large.
He added that another raid on December 4 led to the arrest of 36-year-old Stanley Obasuwa at a warehouse in Isiefve community, Uhunwonde LGA, where operatives seized eight bags of cannabis sativa seeds weighing 315.8 kilogrammes.
“The total weight of cannabis and seeds seized in the two operations now stands at an impressive 763.3 kilogrammes.”
“These arrests and seizures demonstrate our unwavering dedication to eradicating drug-related crimes that threaten the safety and well-being of our communities, especially during the festive season,” Ofoyeju said.
He called on members of the public to cooperate with the NDLEA by providing credible information that could help dismantle drug networks operating in the state.
The command recently made similar arrests along the Benin-Akure Road, further reinforcing its commitment to reducing the circulation of illicit substances in Edo State.
Investigations are ongoing as the agency continues to track other suspects involved in drug trafficking.
