The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to relocate the popular Computer Village from Ikeja to the newly developed ICT and Business Park in Katangowa, Agbado-Oke Odo, as part of its broader urban renewal strategy.

During a stakeholder meeting with traders on Monday, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Urban Development, Gbolahan Oki, explained that the relocation was in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision to decongest major commercial hubs, restore sanity to Ikeja, and promote sustainable urban development.

“For the first time in 15 years, the government is meeting you here in your market on this issue. It shows the governor’s commitment to openness and stakeholder engagement,” Oki told the traders.

According to him, the Katangowa ICT and Business Park has been equipped with modern facilities such as hotels, banking halls, recreation centres, car parks, a fire station, a police post, and access roads, all aimed at boosting business activities in a more conducive environment.

He appealed to traders to support the relocation, desist from trading on roads and drainage setbacks, and embrace the state’s plan to transform Lagos into a more orderly and business-friendly city.

The Iyaloja of Computer Village, Chief (Mrs.) Abisola Azeez, expressed optimism about the project, noting that the relocation would expand the market’s potential and create better opportunities for traders and customers.

Other top officials present at the meeting included the General Manager of the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, Oladimeji Animashaun; the Coordinating Director of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Builder Florence Gbaye; and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Urban Development, Segun Williams.

Computer Village, which has grown into one of West Africa’s largest technology hubs, has faced longstanding challenges of traffic congestion, overcrowding, and environmental strain, making its relocation a priority for urban planners and successive state governments.
