Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Command, Wasiu Abiodun, said the command received information that the undergraduate was found dead in his room.

He said officers moved to the scene and preliminary investigations commenced immediately.

Abiodun explained that the deceased was a student of the state owned university and that the matter was being handled in line with police procedure.

He added that the body had been recovered while further inquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

Sources within the university community identified the deceased as a Computer Science student. It was also gathered that he may have been facing challenges related to accommodation and rent, although this claim could not be independently verified as of press time.

The incident has thrown the IBBU community into mourning, with students and residents of Lapai expressing shock over the sudden loss.

Police authorities said investigations were continuing and urged the public to avoid speculation as efforts were being made to ascertain all relevant facts surrounding the case.
