Vice President Kashim Shettima has been dispatched to Kebbi State by President Bola Tinubu to sympathise with the state government and reassure parents and guardians of the kidnapped schoolgirls that every effort is being made for their swift release.
According to a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President expressed sadness over the abduction and directed the security agencies to act without delay.
President Tinubu also sent his condolences to the military over the death of gallant soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who died on active duty in Borno State.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am depressed with the tragic death of our soldiers and officers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes,” he said.
While acknowledging intelligence warnings of a possible strike by bandits, the President commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for his efforts to prevent the attack, even as he decried the security breach that allowed the abduction to occur.
President Tinubu further urged communities nationwide, particularly in high-risk areas, to support security forces by sharing critical information.
“Our security forces cannot succeed in protecting us if the people don’t cooperate and share information that will help them keep our communities safe. Your cooperation is crucial in our fight against these security challenges,” he added.
