Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has commended the Olota of Ota, Oba Prof. Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, and members of the Awori Traditional Council for reaffirming their support for the emergence of an Ogun West indigene as the next governor of Ogun State in 2027.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate and chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriations, said the position of the traditional rulers reflected the longstanding demand of the people of the senatorial district for equity, justice and fairness in the political leadership of the state.
The senator made the commendation in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, on Wednesday, following the recent consultative visit by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) factional governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, to the Olota of Ota and other Awori traditional rulers.
During the visit, the monarchs reportedly restated their position that, after 50 years of Ogun State’s creation, the time had come for Ogun West to produce the next governor.
Adeola said he was grateful to the traditional rulers for standing firmly on the principle of equity and fair play.
“I am delighted and profoundly grateful to His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyemi and all members of the Awori Traditional Council for standing for the principle of equity, fair play and dignity of all sons and daughters of Ogun State,” he stated.
He commended the Olota for what he described as the “regal, firm and polite delivery” of the position of the royalty and people of Ogun West on the need to address what he considered an injustice to the district.
Adeola further said the position of the Awori monarchs was not based solely on their personal convictions, but followed consultations among traditional councils across Ogun State, including Ijebu, Remo and Egba.
According to him, the outcome of the consultations was a resolution that the 2027 governorship slot should go to Yewa-Awori in Ogun West.
“For the first time in the history of Ogun State, the people of Ogun West and their royalties are united and agreed on their support for me to be the governor of Ogun State under the banner of the ruling party, APC, on the basis of equity, justice and fair play as well as proven competence to deliver good governance for the people of Ogun State,” Adeola said.
He also expressed appreciation to traditional rulers and residents across the three senatorial districts for what he described as a principled position in favour of sustainable development.
“I will not take the trust and confidence reposed in me for granted,” he added.
