Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has rewarded the overall best graduating students of Lagos State University, LASU, for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions with N20 million each.
Sanwo-Olu announced the cash gifts on Wednesday during the 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies of the university held at the LASU main campus in Ojo.
The beneficiaries are Ayilara Lawal Olawale, who emerged as the best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session, and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, who emerged as the overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 session.
Olawale, a graduate of Project Management Technology, finished with a 4.96 Cumulative Grade Point Average, CGPA, and First Class Honours. Oluolamide, who studied Aerospace Engineering, recorded a 4.97 CGPA and also graduated with First Class Honours.
Announcing the award, Sanwo-Olu, who is the Visitor to LASU, said the N20 million would be presented to each of the two graduates as his personal donation.
“Ayilara Lawal Olawale and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, each one of you will earn 20 million naira each,” the governor said.
The development came days after Oluolamide received another N10 million cash prize from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme for emerging as LASU’s overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, had earlier announced the two outstanding students ahead of the combined convocation.
More than 20,000 students are expected to graduate across the two academic sessions, including 494 first-class graduates.
Olawale, who obtained a B.Tech in Project Management Technology, attributed his academic achievement to divine grace, while Oluolamide expressed gratitude to God after officially receiving Senate approval for his 4.97 CGPA in Aerospace Engineering.
