A 36-year-old estate agent, Elom Amobi, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court on Thursday over allegations of defrauding a tenant of N150,000.
Amobi is facing a three-count charge including stealing, breach of peace, and obtaining money under false pretence.
The prosecutor, Mr Adaraloye, told the court that the offences occurred on September 21 at Animashaun Estate, off Idiroko Road, Ota.
According to the prosecution, Amobi allegedly collected N150,000 from Adegoke Fatimo under the pretense of renting a self-contained apartment, without the landlord’s consent.
The money was reportedly used for personal purposes instead of fulfilling the rental agreement.
The prosecutor also stated that the defendant’s actions caused a nuisance in the area, amounting to a breach of the peace, in violation of Sections 249(d), 390, and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
Amobi pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate O. O. Fadairo granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety of equal amount, and adjourned the case to December 3 for further hearing.
