The passage of the bill is expected to strengthen education infrastructure and promote skills development across the state.

The bill, titled “H.B. No. 034/OG/2024 – A Bill for a Law to Establish the Ogun State Education and Skills Trust Fund for Rejuvenating Education Infrastructure and Facilitating Skills and for other Connected Purposes,” was adopted after the presentation of the committee report by the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Yusuf Amosun.

Amosun moved the motion for the adoption of the report, which was seconded by Olakunle Sobukanla. The motion received the backing of all lawmakers through a voice vote.

The bill was thereafter considered clause by clause at the Committee of the Whole before its final passage.

The House Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, subsequently moved the motion for the third reading of the bill, seconded by Lukman Adeleye, leading to its approval by the Assembly.

Following its passage, the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Sakiru Adebakin, read the bill for the third time, after which the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide, directed that a clean copy be transmitted to the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, for assent.

Meanwhile, the Assembly also advanced legislative work on two other bills aimed at improving land administration and addressing boundary-related issues.

The bills, which scaled second reading, include “H.B. No. 024/OG/2025 – Ogun State Boundary Commission Bill, 2025,” and “H.B. No. 032/OG/2026 – Survey and Geoinformatics Bill of Ogun State, 2026.”

Opening debate on the proposals, the Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Damilola Soneye, stressed the importance of accurate land records, clear boundary demarcation and a legal framework to regulate survey activities in the state.

Other lawmakers, including Lukman Adeleye and former Speaker Olakunle Oluomo, supported the bills, saying they would strengthen institutional frameworks, boost investor confidence and help resolve land disputes.

They added that the proposed laws would enhance land administration, promote peaceful coexistence and safeguard community interests.

In his remarks, the Speaker said the success of the proposed laws would depend largely on effective implementation.

He thereafter committed the bills to the House Committee on Lands and Housing for further legislative scrutiny.
