President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the move is aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms in the power sector, improving grid stability and attracting sustainable investment.
The President has since transmitted the nomination to the Senate for screening and confirmation, following the resignation of the former minister, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over three decades of experience in both the public and private sectors. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led several initiatives focused on fiscal policy reform, governance and institutional transformation.
He currently serves as the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinates bilateral development efforts between Nigeria and China.
The minister-designate is also said to have prior experience in regulatory and institutional reforms within the power sector, including engagements with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
According to the statement, the President expects Tegbe, upon confirmation, to deploy his vast expertise towards advancing critical reforms and delivering improved outcomes in Nigeria’s power sector.
