Former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Tuesday publicly recognised Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano and Chairman of the Kano State Council of Chiefs.
Ganduje made the acknowledgement during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, held at the Government House in Kano.
While addressing dignitaries at the event, the former governor greeted Sanusi and addressed him by his full traditional title, a move that drew applause from attendees.
The development marks the first time Ganduje has openly recognised Sanusi in that capacity since their widely reported fallout.
Sanusi was deposed in 2020 by Ganduje during his tenure as governor. However, his successor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, later reinstated him, replacing Aminu Ado Bayero.
Bayero, however, has yet to relinquish the position, amid claims of backing from Ganduje and the Federal Government.
The situation began to shift following Yusuf’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress.
Sanusi was also allowed to hold the Sallah Durbar, in contrast to previous occasions when the event was restricted after security concerns led to its ban.
