The Deputy Commander of the Ogun State Social Orientation and Safety Corps, also known as So-Safe Corps, Moruf Kolawole Yusuf, has called on Nigerians, communities, and well-meaning individuals to support security agencies with logistics and welfare to enhance effective security operations.
Yusuf made the call in a statement issued as part of his “The Secure Mind” series titled, Empowering the Security Hub to Perform Optimally, where he stressed that government alone could not provide all the resources needed by security agencies to adequately protect lives and property.
According to him, public support had become necessary to strengthen the country’s security architecture and assist security personnel in carrying out their duties effectively.
He noted that security agencies still possessed the zeal, patriotism, and commitment to defend the country despite existing operational challenges.
The deputy commander explained that supporting security agencies was equivalent to protecting communities and building safer environments for residents.
He said, “Supporting the security architecture of a state, community, or its agents is equivalent to building a protective wall around ourselves and our communities.”
Yusuf maintained that meaningful empowerment directed towards the security sector would yield positive results, warning that neglecting security support could undermine peace and safety in society.
He listed bicycles, tricycles, motorcycles, patrol vans, fuel, searchlights, solar power systems, solar fans, laptops, and uniforms among items individuals and groups could donate to security agencies.
The So-Safe official also urged professional associations and health workers to contribute their quota by repairing patrol vehicles and conducting medical checkups for security operatives.
He added that officers often experienced emotional stress and required proper medical attention to maintain stable mental health and perform optimally.
Yusuf further appealed to communities to improve the welfare of local security guards and officers protecting them, noting that many operatives lacked basic support such as raincoats, searchlights, and mobility assistance.
He warned that security outcomes might remain unsatisfactory if citizens continued to depend solely on government support without contributing to the welfare and effectiveness of security agencies.
“A security-minded individual focuses on empowering the security architecture of the community to achieve positive results,” he added.
