Four persons lost their lives while 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road accident that occurred on Thursday evening along the Ilesa/Akure Expressway at Omi Asoro Junction in Ilesa, Osun State.
The Osun Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Agnes Ogungbemi, confirmed the incident to journalists on Friday.
She said three victims, comprising two male adults and a female child, died on the spot, while another passenger later died on Friday morning.
According to her, the injured victims included seven adults and three children.
Ogungbemi explained that the accident involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus and a Suzuki commercial mini bus.
She added that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa, while those injured were receiving treatment at the same facility.
“The crash claimed four lives while 10 others sustained injuries. Three persons died instantly, while another victim died this morning,” she said.
Ogungbemi further disclosed that the driver of the mini bus involved in the accident did not possess a valid driver’s licence.
Eyewitnesses said the Toyota bus, which was conveying phone accessories and electronic appliances towards the Akure axis, collided with an intra city commercial mini bus around 9pm.
A trader near the scene, identified simply as Tobi, said the impact of the collision caused panic among residents and motorists in the area.
The accident came barely 24 hours after another road mishap along the Abeokuta Lagos Expressway in Ogun State claimed five lives and left 10 others injured.
