The Ondo State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that a kidnapping incident occurred in a school within Akure, the state capital, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the government said there was no record or report of kidnapping in any primary, secondary, or tertiary institution in Akure.
The government stated that all schools in the state capital remained safe, open and were carrying out academic activities without any disruption.
According to the statement, security agencies, including the police, Amotekun Corps and the Department of State Services, had verified all school environments in Akure and confirmed that normalcy prevailed across the institutions.
“The Government categorically states that there is no record, report, or incident of kidnapping in any primary, secondary, or tertiary institution in Akure. All schools in the state capital are safe, open, and conducting academic activities without disruption,” the statement read.
It added that the state government, in collaboration with school authorities and parents, had maintained strict security protocols to ensure the safety of pupils, students and teachers.
The government urged parents, guardians and other residents to disregard the rumour and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic and anxiety.
“The safety of our children and teachers remains a top priority for the Aiyedatiwa administration. We encourage anyone with genuine security concerns to report directly to the nearest police or Amotekun station/post,” the statement added.
