The Nigeria Democratic Congress has called on President Bola Tinubu to remove the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, an agency the Presidency has maintained does not exist.

The party also urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and the Nigeria Police Force to launch a full investigation into allegations surrounding the purported agency, including claims of sale of public appointments and diversion of public funds.

The demands were contained in a statement issued on Friday by the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director, following allegations made by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claimed to have served as the Director General of the PFIPC.

According to the party, Gbajabiamila should be removed from office to allow for what it described as an independent and credible investigation into the allegations.

The statement read, “The Presidency owes Nigerians an urgent clarification on this matter.”

The NDC argued that the allegations had raised serious concerns about transparency and accountability within the Tinubu administration.

It called on the President to immediately remove Gbajabiamila from office pending the outcome of investigations and constitute an independent panel to probe all allegations relating to the alleged PFIPC, its finances, staff approvals and associated transactions.

The party also urged anti graft agencies to investigate officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service over their alleged roles in the matter.

According to the NDC, allegations that the agency received budgetary allocations in the 2026 budget and operated Treasury Single Account, domiciliary and pounds sterling accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria, despite the Presidency’s denial of its existence, required thorough investigation.

The party further questioned claims that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service approved 314 staff positions for the agency, asking how such approvals could have been granted without the knowledge of the Presidency and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The NDC also referred to allegations by Adeyemi that he secured his appointment after allegedly paying N600m through intermediaries, with N400m reportedly paid while an outstanding balance of N200m remained unpaid.

It further cited allegations that Gbajabiamila demanded 48 per cent of the agency’s take off grant, estimated at about N27.4bn, a request Adeyemi reportedly rejected.

Describing the claims as weighty, the party said, “These are more than ordinary accusations and point to a pattern of institutional corruption and the alleged sale of public appointments.”

The NDC also expressed concern over the death of Babatunde Tanimola, described as an intermediary in the alleged transaction, who reportedly died in a hotel fire incident in Abuja in October 2025.

It further noted Adeyemi’s claim that he survived multiple assassination attempts, insisting that all allegations should be thoroughly investigated and anyone found culpable prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Presidency has consistently denied the existence of the PFIPC and dismissed the allegations surrounding the agency.
