Gunmen on Tuesday invaded Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State and abducted the school principal, four students writing the ongoing National Examinations Council examination and one NECO ad hoc staff member.
The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying the attack occurred around 5:25 p.m. while candidates were sitting for the examination.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Salisu Oyiza, said the armed men stormed the school and whisked away six persons.
> “During the incident, four students, the school principal and one NECO ad hoc staff member were abducted by the attackers,” Oyiza said.
She disclosed that security agencies immediately launched a coordinated search and rescue operation involving the police and other security agencies, adding that one of the abducted students had been rescued.
> “A combined team of the police and other security agencies immediately launched a search-and-rescue operation and is currently on the trail of the assailants. So far, one of the abducted students has been rescued, while efforts are ongoing to secure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators,” she stated.
Oyiza further revealed that the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Kankarofi, alongside the Brigade Commander and the State Security Adviser to the Governor, was heading to the community for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.
She assured residents that the command would provide further updates as investigations and rescue efforts progress.
