Police operatives in Kwara State have rescued a 26 year old woman, Shekinat Mukaila, who was abducted by suspected kidnappers during an attack on Wande Community in Ora Kingdom, Ifelodun Local Government Area, and arrested a suspected collaborator linked to the criminal gang.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ojo Adekimi, disclosed the development while briefing journalists in Ilorin on Friday. He said the rescue was achieved through intelligence driven operations launched immediately after the July 15 attack.

According to the police commissioner, the gunmen invaded Wande Community and abducted Mukaila, while her father, the Baale of the community, sustained gunshot injuries as he attempted to resist the attackers.

Adekimi said the command swiftly deployed tactical and intelligence teams to secure the area, recover exhibits and commence a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

He revealed that the investigation led to the arrest of Aliyu Mohammed, who allegedly facilitated the activities of the kidnappers. Investigators also identified and analysed communication channels used by the syndicate during ransom negotiations, providing critical intelligence that guided subsequent operations.

The police boss said sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations culminated in the successful rescue of the victim without injury, while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest other members of the kidnapping syndicate who remain at large.

He added that the injured traditional ruler was taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

Adekimi described the rescue as a testament to the command’s commitment to intelligence led policing and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
