Operations at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, were temporarily disrupted on Sunday following a fire outbreak that prompted an emergency response by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN.
The authority confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded, assuring passengers and other airport users that firefighters swiftly responded to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other sections of the terminal.
The fire, which occurred in the morning, triggered the deployment of personnel from FAAN’s Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service, ARFFS, to the affected terminal as emergency operations commenced immediately.
In a statement posted on its official X account, FAAN said, “The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wishes to inform the public that a fire incident has occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.”
It added, “The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation.”
The authority reiterated that there were no casualties or loss of life, while efforts were ongoing to minimise disruptions to airport operations.
Although the cause of the fire had yet to be established as of press time, FAAN said investigations were underway and promised to provide further updates as emergency response and recovery efforts progressed.
The incident is expected to affect flight schedules at Terminal 2 until normal operations are fully restored. Passengers have been advised to monitor updates from their respective airlines and airport authorities for the latest information on flight arrangements.
FAAN also assured the public that it would continue to provide timely updates on the incident and measures being taken to restore full operations at the airport.
