The Ogun State Executive Council has approved the construction of 450 housing units, new official quarters for members of the State House of Assembly, the reconstruction of strategic roads across the state and the rebuilding of the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja as part of efforts to strengthen infrastructure and improve public service delivery.
The approvals were announced on Sunday in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, who said the projects reflected the administration’s commitment to sustainable development, urban renewal and institutional reforms.
According to the statement, the housing projects include 450 units of two bedroom semi detached bungalows with supporting infrastructure, 28 official quarters for lawmakers and 28 duplexes for sale at the Ibara Government Reservation Area Scheme II in Abeokuta. The council also approved the reconstruction of the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
The Executive Council equally gave approval for the reconstruction of key roads across the three senatorial districts to improve connectivity, reduce travel time and stimulate socio economic development.
The approved roads include the Okun Owa to Ijebu Ode Road in Odogbolu and Ijebu Ode Local Government Areas, the 19.05 kilometre Ago Iwoye to Ijebu Igbo to Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic Road in Ijebu North Local Government Area, Phase One of the 5.5 kilometre Odeda to Olugbo Road in Odeda Local Government Area, the 3.6 kilometre Ayobo, Mopol Junction to Lafenwa Junction Road in Ota, Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area, and the 2.78 kilometre Agbala Road in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area.
The council also approved the upgrading and recognition of traditional stools across the state. These include the recognition of the Akoko of Tongeji Island, the declaration of the Onitafin of Orile Itafin as a recognised chieftaincy and the appointment of the Olu of Orile Itori Odo into a recognised chieftaincy. It also approved the creation and upgrading of coronet stools under the Ijebu, Egba and Yewa Traditional Councils.
Akinmade said the approvals underscored the determination of the Abiodun administration to sustain its infrastructure drive while strengthening traditional institutions.
He said, “The reconstruction of the House of Assembly quarters and the Governor’s Lodge is aimed at providing a conducive environment for governance, preserving valuable government assets and ensuring a seamless transition for future administrations.”
He added that the projects aligned with the administration’s policy of replacing obsolete public infrastructure with modern, functional and durable facilities capable of meeting the state’s growing needs.
Speaking on the housing scheme, Akinmade said the 450 unit project would expand access to affordable housing while creating jobs and boosting economic activities in the construction sector.
On the road projects, he said, “The approvals demonstrate the administration’s determination to continue opening up communities, reducing travel time, improving access to markets, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and industrial hubs, while stimulating socio economic development across all parts of the state.”
