Chairmen and prominent members of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Ogun East Senatorial District have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, declaring support for the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
The development came during an interactive session between the senator and groups seeking to identify with his governorship project.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Dr. Erinle Opeoluwa, ADC chairman in Ijebu North East Local Government and chairman of all ADC local government chairmen in Ogun State, said the decision followed extensive consultations among party leaders across the district.
According to him, years of opposition politics had yielded little political or economic benefit for many members, prompting them to align with what they described as a more viable political platform.
Opeoluwa said the group also considered Adeola’s record of attracting infrastructure and empowerment projects to Ogun State while serving in the National Assembly, arguing that his performance demonstrated the capacity to lead the state.
Among those who declared support for Adeola were Hon. Kazeem Bolaji Adebanjo of Ijebu North, Hon. Dehinsilu Ayodele Olusegun of Ikenne, Hon. Gbade A. Oluwasegun of Ijebu Ode, Hon. Shittu Rasaq Titilola of Ijebu East, Omooba Hassan Kazeem of Sagamu, Prince Adegoroye Osubukola of Remo North, Alhaji Salisu Abdulwaheed of Odogbolu, Hon. Ibidunni Fatai Adetola and Hon. Yemi Macauley, both ADC chieftains from Ijebu Ode.
Macauley said many party members and supporters had already identified with Adeola through various support groups, making the decision to formally back his governorship aspiration inevitable.
Other groups that declared support for the APC governorship hopeful included the leadership of Market Men and Women in Remoland, led by the Iya Oloja General of Remoland, Chief (Mrs.) Olasonde Oduwaiye, the Miraculous Movement for Yayi, PDP members from Abeokuta North Local Government Area and OGD Coordinators from Ogun East Senatorial District.
Responding, Adeola assured the new supporters of inclusion in his campaign structure, saying his administration would embrace all Ogun indigenes willing to contribute to the state’s development.
He said the campaign was aimed at building a better Ogun State from 2027 and pledged not to take the confidence reposed in him for granted.
