The Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Poultry Farm has recorded zero mortality following the successful transfer of its birds to a battery cage system, in another step towards modernising agricultural production and strengthening food security in Ogun State.
The exercise, conducted on Friday, August 7, 2026, involved birds aged 85 days. According to the local government, all the birds were successfully transferred without any mortality, a development it described as an encouraging indication of effective farm management and animal-health practices.
A farm supervisor said the successful transition had boosted confidence in the capacity of the facility to expand production while maintaining appropriate standards of animal care.
«“The successful transfer of the birds without any mortality is a reflection of the management system we have put in place. It also gives us greater confidence to expand production and adopt more modern methods of poultry farming,” the supervisor said.»
The supervisor added that the birds had received their scheduled vaccinations and medications, while adequate feed and water were being provided to support their growth and overall wellbeing.
“Feed and water are supplied ad libitum, while the birds are under continuous health monitoring. We are also maintaining strict biosecurity and proper litter management to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks,” the supervisor added.
Ten birds are currently being kept in isolation as part of enhanced surveillance, while the larger flock remains under routine observation.
The local government said the adoption of the battery cage system formed part of its broader agricultural development strategy aimed at increasing local food production, creating employment opportunities, empowering residents and improving the revenue base of the council.
A representative of the council said the project was being developed as more than a poultry production venture, noting that it was designed to demonstrate how public-sector investment could generate economic value.
«“Our objective is to ensure that agriculture contributes directly to food security, employment and revenue generation. We want this poultry farm to become a model of productive public-sector agriculture,” the representative said.»
The council also reaffirmed its determination to expand the facility, embrace modern agricultural technologies and strengthen best management practices across the farm.
According to the council, the latest achievement reinforces its commitment to ensuring that agriculture goes beyond feeding the population to becoming a viable source of wealth creation and employment.
The Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government maintained that continued investment in modern agricultural systems would help improve productivity, reduce avoidable losses and contribute to the broader economic development of Ogun State.
