The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi.

Four of the suspects, identified as Olufemi Olatunji, 39; Ajayi Idowu, 31; Akingbala Oluwakemi, 40; and Adekunle Basirat, 40, were arrested around 2am on August 9, following a petition to the Commissioner of Police.

The suspects were allegedly involved in conspiracy, attempted murder, assault occasioning harm and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.

Police searches conducted at their residences and premises reportedly led to the recovery of two firearms, including a locally manufactured cut-to-size firearm and a pump-action gun.

According to the command, the locally manufactured firearm was recovered from Basirat’s shop, while the pump-action gun was found at Oluwakemi’s residence.

The police identified Basirat as the wife of Solomon Akinlabi, popularly known as “Indomine,” while Oluwakemi was identified as the wife of Akingbala Akindele, alias “Ostand.”

The command said the four suspects remained in custody and were assisting investigators with the ongoing investigation.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested six suspected members of an unlawful society following an alleged invasion of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.

The incident reportedly involved armed hoodlums, during which two students sustained injuries.

The six suspects were identified as Ajoba Akorede, 27; Adam Oseni, 27; Ogunrinde Ayomide, 21; Ogunlana Muheez, 26; Ajose Noah, 25; and Adeniyi Damola, 25.

The police said Akorede and Oseni confessed during interrogation to belonging to the Aye confraternity, although investigators were yet to establish whether the two were students of the institution.

The PPRO said investigations into both incidents were ongoing, adding that the suspects would be prosecuted upon completion of the investigations.

The command also stated that efforts were underway to apprehend other suspects allegedly linked to the Modakeke incident.

“The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting the police with the ongoing investigation,” Ojelabi said.
