Gunmen on Tuesday stormed Iseyin town in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State, killing a former local government worker and abducting a petrol station attendant.

The attackers, who arrived at a petrol station along Sawmill Road on the Iseyin-Saki highway, had reportedly intended to kidnap the owner of the facility. However, sources revealed that the owner was not present at the time of the attack.

During the incident, a former local government employee, identified as Ayanladun, was shot dead. Witnesses stated that Ayanladun had been attending a church service near the filling station but had left briefly to retrieve his phone, which he had plugged in to charge at the station. Unfortunately, his visit coincided with the arrival of the gunmen.

“He was in church when he decided to pick up his phone, but as soon as he got to the filling station, the gunmen struck and shot him,” a source said.

In addition to killing Ayanladun, the gunmen also shot the station’s security officer, who is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Iseyin.

“The security officer was shot, but he survived and is being treated at a private hospital,” another source disclosed.

Following the attack, the assailants forcefully abducted a petrol station attendant before fleeing the scene.

Residents of the area have expressed concern over the rising wave of insecurity, calling on security agencies to take swift action to rescue the abducted worker and apprehend the perpetrators.
