The Global President of the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, Alhaji Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, has called on individuals, governments, and stakeholders to invest in prevention as a strategic approach to tackling drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Wahab made the appeal in a message to commemorate the 2025 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The Foundation President described the day’s theme, “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention (Break the Cycle… Stop Organized Crime)” as timely and crucial to building a healthier society.

“Prevention remains the most effective tool to break the cycle of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. By investing in prevention, we empower individuals, families, and communities to make informed choices, build resilience, and reject the destructive path of substance abuse,” Wahab stated.

He urged Nigerians and the global community to say no to drugs and embrace healthier, more meaningful lives.

“Together, let us reject drugs and say yes to life. A society that values health, well-being, and dignity is possible if we join hands and work collectively,” he added.

Wahab also emphasized the need to support those already affected by substance abuse, while advocating stronger community-based prevention programmes.

He reaffirmed his Foundation’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote awareness, prevention, and rehabilitation, noting that tackling drug abuse requires a united front.

“Together, we can break the cycle and stop organized crime. Let us invest in prevention and work towards a brighter, healthier future for all,” Wahab concluded.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed annually on June 26, aims to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.
