President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

Adeniyi, whose tenure was initially scheduled to end on August 31, 2025, will now remain in office until August 2026.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said the extension is to enable him consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key national projects under his leadership.

The statement listed major initiatives under Adeniyi’s watch to include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.

“The President recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” the statement noted, adding that Tinubu believes the extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in fulfilling its responsibilities of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.

Adeniyi was appointed Comptroller-General of Customs in 2023 and has spearheaded several reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and operational efficiency in the service.
