The 2025 edition of the Sixth Sense Children Reading Competition took place on Monday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, bringing together children from different schools to celebrate reading, literacy, and creativity.
Organised by Sixth Sense Series Publications in partnership with the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, the annual event was designed for children between the ages of 5 and 15, with the goal of reviving the culture of reading among young learners and building their literary confidence.
This year’s competition, themed “Reading Culture: A Tool for Successful Learning and Self-Actualisation within a New Generation,” featured various reading activities and interactive sessions aimed at promoting learning, engagement, and a positive attitude toward books.
Founder and Coordinator of The SixthSense Initiative, Chief (Dr.) Abiodun Lasile, who is also the Orunto Baalufe of Owu Kingdom, said the programme remains one of the organisation’s key projects toward promoting literacy and youth development in Nigeria.
According to him, “The future of our nation depends on the intellectual capacity of our children. If we can make them fall in love with reading today, we are already securing tomorrow. This initiative is about inspiring a new generation that reads, thinks, and leads.”
Children who participated in the competition received certificates of attendance and participation, books, and souvenirs as a token of encouragement to continue their reading journey.
The event also provided a platform for young learners to express themselves, improve their communication skills, and appreciate the joy that comes from reading.
Chief Lasile reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the programme annually, noting that the partnership with the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library will continue to strengthen the drive to build an informed, creative, and goal-driven generation.
