Job hunting has moved online, and so have scammers. Every week, new graduates and professionals all over the world fall victim to fake job offers that promise huge salaries, flexible hours, or remote work.

It often starts with a polite email or a WhatsApp message from someone claiming to be a “recruiter”. They might say your CV stood out, or that you’ve been shortlisted for an exciting position. Before you know it, they’re asking for a “processing fee”, “training payment”, or even your personal details to “prepare your offer letter”.

Many of these scams look professional. They use company logos, realistic job descriptions, and convincing sender names but something small always feels off.

How to Spot Fake Job Offers:

Check the sender’s email: Legitimate companies use official domains (e.g., @company.com), not free ones like @gmail.com or @outlook.com.

Watch for upfront payments: No real company will ever ask for money before giving you a job.

Be suspicious of too-good-to-be-true offers: If it promises big money for little work, it’s likely a scam.

Confirm on official channels: Visit the company’s website or verified LinkedIn page before responding.

Cybercriminals know that job seekers can be anxious or hopeful, they use that emotion to trick people into acting fast. Always pause, research, and confirm before you respond.

Remember: a real job pays you, not the other way around.
