A mentally unstable boy fatally stabbed a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer on Thursday in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident. DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the command’s spokesperson, told journalists that the officer died while receiving treatment in the hospital after sustaining multiple stab wounds.
The attack occurred at Oke-Ala, Oba-Ile in Akure North Local Government Area. According to a witness, the boy’s mother had called on NSCDC personnel to help restrain her son, who had been mentally unstable for years.
“The boy started misbehaving this morning, so his mother invited two civil defence officers to help chain him.
During the process, he overpowered one of the officers, took his knife, and stabbed him repeatedly,” the witness said. “Unfortunately, the officer died despite having a gun during the incident.”
NSCDC’s state spokesperson, DSC Daniel Aidemenbor, also confirmed the death, explaining that the officer was attacked while attempting to restrain the boy for hospital treatment.
